Provincial police are investigating Thursday after a caller allegedly threatened to “use a firearm” at three elementary schools in Pembroke and Petawawa, the OPP said.

In a release, the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the OPP said the threat was made on a messaging application.

Police went to the schools at about 9:45 a.m. after the schools reported the threatening message.

“At this time, the threat has not been substantiated,” police said in the release.

“The public can expect an increased police presence in the school areas to ensure public safety.”
