The OPP are asking for the public’s assistance after a vehicle ran over a child’s leg at the Sandbanks Provincial Park on Friday, sending the six-year-old to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at a campground in the park, police said in a news release Tuesday, adding that the vehicle left the scene after striking the child.

After being contacted two hours later, officers met the family at a local hospital before the child was transferred to a regional trauma centre.

The Prince Edward County OPP detachment continues to investigate, and asked anyone who may have seen the incident, or has information or relevant video, to call them at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E241265227.

Police said a car had been seen in the area at the time the child was struck, but no other information was released.

The Sandbanks Provincial Park is located southwest of Kingston, about three hours outside of Ottawa.
