The two cows and a lone sheep were “on the lamb from a nearby farm,” OPP East Region spokesperson Bill Dickson said in an email.

“They weren’t carrying any ID and refused to provide their names,” Dickson reported.

After a tense standoff, in which OPP and animal control worked to keep the animals away from traffic, the animals’ owner was located.

Police noted “owners can face a charge if their animals escape on multiple occasions. The fine is over $400 with fees.

“That was not the case today.”
