Ottawa airport, Porter hit by fallout from Microsoft crash

Ottawa International Airport has urged travellers to double-check with their airlines Friday as cancellations and other computer problems continued to cascade after an overnight failure at a Microsoft cybersecurity operation.

Microsoft said in a release Friday morning that the issue had been located, The company stressed that the problem was not a hack or other cyber attack.

Porter Airlines announced the cancellation of all flights until at least noon Friday.

Both Porter and FlyYOW websites were shut Friday morning. Porter’s site said only “We’re making changes for you” while FlyYOW’s site said visitors had been blocked, citing no other information.

In Ottawa, Radio-Canada, the CBC’s French-language service, said their operations around Quebec were affected, although it apparently returned to normal at about 7 a.m.

In a message early Friday, Microsoft says users may be unable to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services.

Microsoft said on X (formerly Twitter) Friday that the issue had been identified and work is underway to fix the glitch.
