A 33-year-old Ottawa man is to appear in a Gatineau court Thursday, after leading police on a chase in the Quebec city driving a pickup truck with two flat tires.

Gatineau police said in a release the chase began about 3 a.m. Thursday when Gatineau police were trying to capture a man who was suspected of committing unspecified offences in Ottawa.

“According to the information received, the pickup truck was driving on two flat tires,” police said.

Once in Gatineau, the man drove to a Fournier Avenue business, causing unspecified damages.

His attempt to steal a second vehicle was thwarted when he couldn’t start the vehicle.

He then jumped back behind the wheel of his truck, smashing the vehicle he had attempted to steel, and returned to Fournier Boulevard, heading to the Pointe-Gatineau district.

Alert Gatineau officers spotted the suspect driving the wrong way on Fournier.

Finally, the damage on the pickup was so severe, the man was no longer able to drive it.

A foot pursuit ensued, and Gatineau police subdued the man on a commercial property on Gréber Boulevard.

The suspect remains in custody and was to face charges later Tuesday of:

  • Uttering threats;
  • Theft of a motor vehicle;
  • Hit and run;
  • Dangerous driving;
  • Mischief;
  • Robbery;
  • Flight from police.
