Ottawa Fire rope team rescues man from failed cliff climb near Alexandria Bridge

Ottawa Fire Service’s rope rescue specialists successfully rescued a man Saturday afternoon after he allegedly tried to climb the cliffs near the Alexandria Bridge.

In a message on X, Ottawa fire said that they were alerted by Ottawa police at about 1:35 p.m. that the person was stuck on the cliff after climbing up from below the bridge towards the Samuel de Champlain statue. and they confirmed the person was about five metres down the cliff and “unable to get to safety.”

“One of our rescuers was lowered by rope over the cliff and down to the resident,” Ottawa fire said in the release.

“The resident was then put into a harness by our rescuer and at (2:15 p.m.) the resident was safely brought up over the railing.”

There was no mention of injuries.

Ottawa police were not immediately available for further information.
