Ottawa firefighters contained a fire in a Donald Street apartment on Monday.

A media release said multiple calls came in shortly after 12 p.m. on Dec. 23, with callers reporting smoke and flames coming out of the top floor of an apartment in the 200 block of Donald Street.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and contained the fire before it could spread.

The building has both commercial and residential units, and firefighters completed two full searches of the building to ensure no occupants were inside.

The fire was declared under control shortly after 12:30 p.m. and residents were allowed back in the building shortly thereafter.

An investigator with the Ottawa Fire Services was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
