Ottawa man facing drug, weapons charges after four-month investigation

A 29-year-old Ottawa man is facing several drug and weapons charges following a four-month investigation.

About nine kilograms of suspected cocaine was seized when three search warrants were executed in Ottawa on June 14, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday. In addition, police found approximately $47,000 in currency, a nine-mm loaded handgun and a vehicle as “offence-related property.”

Reyan Abdulkader has been charged with: unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; possession of loaded prohibited/restricted firearm; possession of a firearm obtained by crime; occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there is a firearm; possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine.

The accused was scheduled to appear in an Ottawa courtroom on Monday.
