Ottawa police are seeking public assistance to identify two suspects in a pair of violent carjacking incidents since Nov. 3 in the city’s south end.

The first incident occurred in the 2200 block of Bank Street on Nov. 3, when the suspects approached the victim and demanded the keys to their vehicle.

When the victim attempted to flee the area, they were assaulted with unspecified weapons. Police recovered the vehicle the next day near Bank Street and Lester Road.

Four days later, at about 11:20 p.m., there was a similar attack in the 2400 block of Bank Street, where suspects approached the victim in a parking lot and demanded their vehicle keys.

Once again, when the victim attempted to flee, they were assaulted with a weapon. This time, the suspects fled the area without the vehicle.

The victims both received injuries.

The descriptions of the suspects in each incident are similar.

Police described “Suspect 1” as being of Middle Eastern heritage, 18-20 years old and standing about five feet eight inches (173 centimetres) tall. He spoke English without an accent. At the time of the incidents, he wore a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, a black Under Armour jacket (with brand-name patches front and back), a black toque with a white stripe and black shoes with white soles.

“Suspect 2” was described similarly except that, at the time of the incidents, he wore a brown hooded sweatshirt with markings on the front, a shiny black jacket, black shoes with white trim and a black balaclava.

Anyone with information as to the identities of the suspects or information about the incidents was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service robbery unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.
