Ottawa woman charged in May crash that left child dead

A 25-year-old Ottawa woman has been charged in connection with a May 31 collision that left a young child dead.

Just before 4 p.m. on the day of the multi-vehicle crash, Ottawa OPP officers responded to the scene on Highway 417 west, near Carp Road. An eastbound vehicle had crossed the centre median and went into oncoming traffic, police said in a news release Wednesday.

A child died from the injuries they suffered in the collision and two individuals suffered life-altering injuries, police said.

The Ottawa woman has been charged with careless driving causing death and two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm. She is to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in November.
