Person rescued after Jet Ski catches fire on Ottawa River near Aylmer Island

A person was rescued from the Ottawa River near Aylmer Island on Sunday after the Jet Ski they were operating caught on fire, Ottawa Fire Services said.

The fire department received a 911 call at 1:15 p.m. about the incident, and when crews arrived at the scene they confirmed that the personal watercraft was still on fire and that one individual was in the water, wearing a lifejacket.

The water rescue team was deployed and the person was out of the water by 1:40 p.m., fire services said in a news release.

One patient was assessed at the scene, but was not taken to hospital, an Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson said.
