Police investigate possible ByWard Market homicide

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man in 100 blockThey of George Street late Thursday night.

Police said the death occurred just after 10:30 p.m. in the area of the Salvation Army Booth Centre.

Ottawa Paramedics spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said Friday that paramedics were called to the scene at about 10:45 p.m.

They treated “an adult male” for stab wounds. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police later confirmed the victim had died at hospital.

Police said in a release Friday that they expect there will continue to be a significant police presence in the Market area, along with road closures.

People are asked to please avoid the area.

No further information will be released pending next-of-kin notifications.
