Police investigating after body discovered at east end fire

Ottawa police are continuing its investigation after one person was found dead at the scene of a residential fire in the east end Tuesday evening.

“Last night at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers attended a residential fire in the 600 block of Clarke Ave,” police in a brief release Wednesday.

One person was located deceased at the scene, police said.

“All fires are treated as suspicious until deemed otherwise,” OPS said in a release.

OPS works collaboratively with partners including the Ottawa Fire Service, the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner to determine cause.

Ottawa Fire Services were also called to the scene. However, spokesman Nick DeFazio said “there was no fire,” and OFS left the scene.
