Police search in Smiths Falls turns up submerged car reported stolen in 1990s

Divers from the Ontario Provincial Police underwater search and recovery unit and the Smiths Falls Police Service recovered a vehicle reported stolen in the 1990s from the Rideau River on Thursday.

An online post by the OPP said no human remains were found in the vehicle, which was located in the river at Lower Reach Park in Smiths Falls.

The search of the river by OPP divers and other units as well as Smiths Falls police was being conducted in connection with another ongoing investigation.

The investigation into the stolen car will continue, the OPP post said.
