Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Ottawa, and says to expect “multiple thunderstorms” over the first weekend of summer.

The warning, issued Saturday at 5:24 a.m., says a low pressure system will bring “significant” rainfall to the region, potentially in excess of 60 millimetres. The downpours can lead to localized flooding, flooded roads and possible washouts near creeks and culverts, Environment Canada says.

It will be cooler too, a welcome relief after this week’s searing heatwave. The high Saturday is forecast to be 20 C with a comfortable overnight low of 16 C.

Sunday, expect more rain — “at times heavy” — and thunderstorms with a high of 23 C and a low of 16 C. More rain is to follow on Monday, but the outlook for Tuesday is sunny with a high of 28 C, before the rain returns again on Wednesday.
