Article content

Ottawa firefighters were alerted by a monitoring agency just before 5 a.m. Saturday of reports of a fire in an apartment building on the 300 block of Maclaren Street.

First reports were that neighbours encountered heavy smoke in hallways.

Fire crews confirmed that smoke was also visible outside the building.

The crews began searching the structure for any remaining occupants and an OC Transpo bus was dispatched to provide shelter for the residents.

OFS reported the fire under control at 05:18 a.m.

High pressure fans were used to ventilate residual smoke.

There were no reports of injuries.

An investigator has been assigned to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
