“After consultation with the OPP, the school boards have made the decision to close all public and Catholic schools in Kemptville today as a precaution. Seaway District High School and Iroquois Public School are also closed.”
Parents with children at the Upper Canada District School Board received an email early Thursday telling them multiple schools would be closed.
“Police received a threat indicating that St. Michael CHS would be the target of a violent incident on Thursday,” the email said. “Out of an abundance of caution and under the direction of police, North Grenville DHS, Kemptville Public School, and South Branch Elementary School will be closed to all students and staff today.
“All transportation is cancelled, as well as any planned school activities.”
The provincial police said, “It’s not known if the threats are legitimate.” Investigative efforts to identify the callers are ongoing.
“The OPP understands the concerns and stress this causes for students, parents, teachers and others in the community,” the force said. “We will continue to investigate these threats in an effort to hold the responsible individuals accountable.”
