The incident began just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, when Ottawa police received a 911 call reporting a Toyota Highlander vehicle had been stolen in the city’s west end.
The vehicle’s owner was able to track the Highlander’s progress via a GPS transmitter and police located the vehicle, then followed it “at a safe distance while an operational plan was quickly co-ordinated between the forces.”

At one point, the driver refused to stop at a highway on-ramp, leading “to brief contact with cruisers.”
“A pursuit on Highway 417 was briefly initiated, but then terminated due to unsafe conditions,” police said in a release.
The stolen vehicle was tracked into OPP jurisdiction, where officers stopped the vehicle and arrested a 20-year-old man, an 18-year-old man, and a 15-year-old youth, all from the greater Montreal area.
The suspects were taken into custody by Ottawa police.
“Great teamwork ensured a safe resolution!” police said in the release.
