Ottawa police are looking to locate a man wanted in connection with a Carling Avenue homicide on July 5.

In a news release Tuesday, police said Kennedid Atteyeh, 23, of Ottawa, was wanted for accessory after the fact to murder.

The police homicide unit is investigating the shooting death of 28-year-old Adam Abdullahi Elmi of Ottawa at approximately 6 p.m. on July 5 near Carling and Kirkwood avenues.

Investigators believe Elmi’s death was targeted. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Atteyeh’s arrest, and police said Tuesday they believed he had left the country.

As reported by CBC Ottawa, Elmi was the groom whose wedding was destroyed by brazen gunfire that injured six and killed two at Ottawa’s Infinity Convention Centre last summer.

CBC Ottawa reported Elmi was not among the injured at his wedding.

Said Mohamed Ali, 26, and 29-year-old Abdishakur Abdi-Dahir, both of Toronto, were killed in the September 2023 shooting. Police described them as innocent bystanders who were not the intended targets. No arrests have been made in relation to that shooting, either.

Police did not confirm if the two shootings were connected, instead saying they were “pursuing all leads” in relation to Elmi’s death.

Police described Atteyeh as a Black male standing six feet four inches (193 centimetres) tall and having dark eyes and short, dark hair. Anyone seeing Atteyeh was advised not to approach him and to call 911 immediately, police said.
