SUV driver charged over collision that injured motorcycle riders in Pembroke

A 78-year-old Pembroke resident has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm after their SUV collided with two motorcycles in late September.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment had charged the SUV driver on Monday. The accused, who was not identified in a media release on Tuesday, is scheduled to appear in court in Pembroke on Dec. 16.

The collision occurred on Mary Street in Pembroke on Sept. 30.

A 37-year-old male motorcycle rider was seriously injured and, after being taken to hospital by paramedics, was subsequently airlifted to a regional trauma centre. A 37-year-old female motorcycle passenger was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 32-year-old male driver of the second involved motorcycle driver was not injured.

Mary Street was closed between MacKay Street and Church Street for approximately seven hours that day while police investigated the collision.
