An Ottawa man dubbed a “thirsty thief” by Ontario Provincial Police is facing charges for allegedly stealing alcohol from a gas station twice in one morning.
Police said Matthew Shea, 39, broke into a gas station in Rolphton, a Laurentian Hills community about 200 kilometres northwest of Ottawa, early Monday and stole alcohol from the store.
“A short time later police located the suspect at a nearby motel and took them into custody,” a news statement said Wednesday.

Shea was charged with breaking and entering and theft under $5,000. He was released on a promise to appear before a judge in Pembroke at a later date, police said.
Later that morning, the news statement said, police were called back to the gas station “after it was reported that the accused had returned and more alcohol was stolen.”
He was then charged with another count of theft under $5,000 as well as failing to comply with the terms of his earlier release from custody.
Shea was held for a bail hearing and again released on a promise to appear before a judge in Pembroke in November.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
Ontario convenience stores began selling beer, cider, wine and ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages at the beginning of September.
