Four youths, one of them a 12-year-old girl, face a long list of charges following a wild ride in a stolen vehicle from Smiths Falls to Cornwall.

The pursuit began Wednesday afternoon when a car that had been reported stolen was involved in several reports of dangerous driving in and around Smiths Falls.

An OPP officer “narrowly avoided” injury when they tried to flag the vehicle down near Kemptville.

Provincial police emphasized there was no active “chase” of the vehicle.

“We kept searching for them, they would refuse to stop and we would go look for them again,” Bill Dickson, OPP East Region spokesman wrote in an email.

The pursuit, involving a half-dozen police agencies, continued until the vehicle left the road in the Spencerville area.

Police recovered a quantity of suspected cocaine, other drugs, alcohol and weapons in the car.

The hunt included officers from the OPP detachments in Ottawa, Grenville County, Leeds County and Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, as well as the Smiths Falls Police Service. The OPP Emergency Response Team and the force’s collision investigations specialists were also involved.

A 15-year-old girl from Tay Valley Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 substance
