Testing of the Trillium Line LRT has been successfully completed, but the opening of the north-south train service is still weeks away, City of Ottawa Transit General Manager Renée Amilcar says.
“We know the No. 1 question on everyone’s mind today is, ‘When is the system going to open?’” Amilcar acknowledged at a media briefing Thursday.
“While we cannot provide an opening date today, a technical briefing will occur in the coming weeks to provide further information on the openings of Line 2 and Line 4.”

It will take at least another two weeks after the successful 21-day trial run that concluded last Sunday “to close out outstanding tasks” to reach substantial completion.
“This is the final step before the system is handed over to the City of Ottawa,” Amilcar said.
An independent certifier will confirm that all the contract requirements have been met and then the city can apply for its operating licence from Transport Canada.
Amilcar did say OC Transpo would hold a weekend dress rehearsal of service with city employees playing the role of customers. Trillium Line will open for paying customers with “a soft launch,” she said.
“We will not rush the system and I will explain that when we have the technical briefing,” she said. “You will have to be a bit more patient.”
