Two slightly injured in Britannia area high-rise fire

Two people were injured Sunday morning in a high-rise fire in the 300 block of Croydon Avenue in the Britannia district.

A number of people called 911 at about 10:50 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed there was smoke visible on the seventh floor, with alarms ringing in the building.

First responders called for additional resources to the scene.

Paramedics reported they treated two residents at the scene. One was taken to hospital in stable condition while the second was released at the scene after examination.

An OC Transpo bus was dispatched to the scene to provide shelter for the residents in the frigid weather.

The fire was declared under control at 11:01 a.m. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the area of origin.

Fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure before residents were allowed to return.

An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was dispatched to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
