Tornado experts have confirmed that two “weak” touched down during storms in Eastern Ontario Aug. 21.
Scientists with the Northern Tornadoes Project at Western University touched down on Wednesday.
The researchers reported on X that witnesses captured video of a tornado touching down near the town of Newington, about 80 km southeast of Ottawa, near Cornwall.
The twister caused no damages or injuries.
The tornado was labelled EF0 on the Fujita scale, the lowest rating of tornados.
Shortly after, NTP watchers detected another EF0 tornado near Morrisburg, about 80 kilometres south of Ottawa on the St. Lawrence River.
Residents reported no injuries, but there was minor damage to trees, a fence and a gazebo, the report said.
The estimated maximum windspeed was 115 km/h, NTP said.
NTP reported their ground and drone survey was completed on Thursday.
Further investigation of imagery collected for both tornadoes is pending, the report said.
