The remains of one person were located Saturday in a fire-damaged residence in Bonnechere Valley, the Ontario Provincial Police said.

The home on John Street had been fully engulfed by flames when officers from the OPP’s Killaloe detachment and members of the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department arrived at the scene at about 5:15 a.m. on Friday.

The remains found inside the residence had yet to be identified as of Saturday, the OPP said in a late-afternoon news release, adding that John Street remained closed to traffic and the area had been cordoned off.

Anyone with information about the fire was asked to contact the Killaloe OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those wishing to remain anonymous were instructed to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Bonnechere Valley is about 125 kilometres west of Ottawa.
