The thunderstorm was at that point located near Lower Rideau Lake and was moving east at 45 km/h.

Locations impacted by the warning included Smiths Falls, Merrickville, Port Elmsley, Lower Rideau Lake and Rosedale, the advisory said.

“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”

At the same time, a severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for the Ottawa area, with Environment Canada warning about a storm capable of producing strong wind gusts, nickel-size hail and heavy rain.

The same severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Gatineau.
