Victim of Oct. 8 arson fire in Nepean dies in hospital

An arson investigation into a Nepean house fire on Oct. 8 is now a homicide investigation.

The Ottawa Police Service said Friday that 51-year-old Ottokie Kelly died from her injuries in hospital on Nov. 21.

Firefighters were called to the 1 1/2-storey, wood frame house at 95 Rossland Ave. near Algonquin College at 3:30 a.m. that morning after neighbours reported flames shooting through a window. Rossland was one of two people who escaped the fire, but were seriously injured, including burns and smoke inhalation.

On Friday, the day after Kelly’s death, police asked for help from anyone who had information about the fire, doorbell-camera or surveillance video of suspicious activity in the area between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. that morning. Those who haven’t already spoken to investigators are asked to call the Ottawa Police Service homicide unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.
