Youth, 16, faces murder charges in slaying of 15-year-old boy

Provincial police in Perth have charged a 16-year-old youth with second-degree murder following the discovery of a deceased youth Friday.

Lanark County officers responded to the area of North Street North and Sherbrooke Street East just before 3 p.m. Friday.

One person was located deceased, and another person was arrested at a home in the area.

Police have not released the cause of death.

Police identified the victim as a resident of Perth.

The suspect remains in custody with a virtual bail hearing scheduled for Saturday before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

The identity of this individual is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Anyone who shares the name publicly could be subject to criminal charges.

OPP reported residents could expect to continue to see a large police presence Saturday as the investigation continues.
