1 person dead after wrong way, head-on crash on Hwy. 401 in Kingston

One person is dead following a head-on crash on Highway 401 west of Kingston.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an SUV traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

A short time later, two SUV’s crashed in the same area.

Several lanes were blocked and the drivers from each vehicle had to extricated from the wreckage.

Both drivers were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

One driver, a 41-year-old woman from Kingston, has since died, while the second driver’s injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.  

Frontenac OPP were assisted by members of the Lennox & Addington OPP detachment, Kingston Fire Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, the Kingston Police Service and the Ministry of Transportation.

The highway was closed for eight hours for the investigation, reopening around 9 p.m.

No charges have been laid at this point and the investigation is ongoing.
