Arson case opened after house fire leaves two with ‘serious’ injuries

Ottawa police are investigating an arson that happened earlier this week that left two people with “serious” injuries.

It happened Oct. 8 in the 1-100 block of Rossland Avenue near Algonquin College. A neighbour across the street reported flames coming through the window of the bungalow just after 3:30 a.m.

Two occupants had evacuated the home when crews arrived on scene and both had to be treated for burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters discovered that smoke and flames had spread from the first floor into the roof and a working fire was quickly declared. While inside the home, crews pulled down part of the ceiling to access the flames.

The fire was declared under control at 5:11 a.m.

Police are looking for anyone with doorbell camera or video surveillance footage of suspicious activity in the area between 3:00 am and 4:00 am on Oct. 8th.
