The reopening of Blakeney Bridge in Mississippi Mills has been delayed.
The bridge was expected to reopen in December of 2024, but due to weather-related challenges, the date is being pushed back.
“Unseasonable precipitation and elevated river flows have impacted the progress of essential construction work in the water,” explained Lanark County Public Works Manager Sean Derouin.
Derouin says flow rates have been three to five times the average, creating unsafe water levels for the work.
Construction will temporarily pause for the winter months with work expected to resume in April 2025.
The anticipated completion date is now late May 2025.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to complete this vital infrastructure improvement.” Derouin said.
Blakeney Bridge crosses the Mississippi River between Almonte and Pakenham.
