Firefighters respond to multi-unit building in Lowertown

There are no injuries reported following a fire in Lowertown.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a multi-residential building in the 100 block of Cobourg Street shortly after 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17.

A call had been received from a monitoring company and initial reports indicated there was a light haze on the second floor.

Crews arrived on scene, forced their way into a unit on the second floor and confirmed a fire inside.

Firefighters quickly got to work tackling the fire and began searching the unit for occupants.

After two full searches, it was confirmed the there were no occupants inside.

 The fire was declared under control at around 6:10 p.m. and high pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke from the building.

Victim Services was dispatched to the scene and a fire investigator is working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
