Flood outlook issued for Ottawa River between Arnprior and Hawkesbury

After several days of precipitation, a flood outlook statement has been issued for the Ottawa River from Arnprior to Hawkesbury.

According to the South Nation Conservation Authority, levels and flows along the Ottawa River have begun increasing due to spring runoff, as well as a weather system that brought 15-75 mm of rain to the Ottawa River basin between April 11-13.

Residents along the shores of the Lower Ottawa River are advised that water levels can rise rapidly at times and cause minor flooding in low-lying areas during the spring freshet (snowmelt) period.

If you live in a flood-prone area, you’re encouraged to closely follow changing conditions and to take necessary measures.

You’re also advised to stay away from watercourses where flows are high and banks might be unstable.
