A homeowner called 911 at around 7:44 a.m. because their house was rapidly filling up with smoke.
Firefighters arrived at the 0-100 block of Crownhill Street in the Beacon Hill South community and confirmed heavy flames and smoke coming from the back of a two-storey single-family home.
Crews said in a post on X they were met by the people who live in the home, who said everyone left safely. There was worry a family dog could be still inside so officials quickly got to work with a hose line to the back of the house.
“The fire had started in a solarium at the back of the home and spread to the basement and the kitchen that was located right off of the solarium,” firefighters said.
By 8:35 a.m. the flames were extinguished and crews began two searches of the building. No other people or pets were found inside. Fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke and victim assistance was called to help the four adults and one child who will be displaced.
A fire watch was set up and an Ottawa fire investigator will be on scene to determine the cause and origin.
