Head on crash closes Trans Canada Highway in Kingston

A wrong-way, head-on collision in Kingston, Ont. has closed a portion of Highway 401 between Gardiners Road and Highway 6 in Odessa, Ont.

Two people have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in going west in the eastbound lanes collided with a transport truck, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) told CityNews.

Police are in the process of clearing out the vehicles stuck in the closure. They are using the Odessa ONroute as a way to free drivers from the closure.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 are closed for the investigation. There are no impacts to traffic in the westbound lanes at this time.

It is unclear when any lanes will reopen.
