Lanark OPP charge suspended driver near Carleton Place

A person from Lanark Village is facing charges after a traffic stop just west of Carleton Place.

A patrol officer with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) witnessed a driver making an unsafe pass of a transport truck on Highway 7 on a bridge over the Mississippi River.

Using an Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR), the officer also discovered that the owner of the vehicle was suspended from driving.

The 56-year-old driver faces the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA):

  • Drive while under suspension
  • Drive left of centre within 30 metres of a bridge

The driver was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with fail to surrender an insurance card.

The accused is due in court in Perth on May 14.
