Provincial police are urging a man from Drummond-North Elmsley to turn himself in after a threatening incident in the Maberly, Ont. area.
Around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, a person reported they had been threatened at a location on Bennett Lake Road and that a gun had been seen.
Officers with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrived and attempted to stop a vehicle fleeing the scene, but the driver avoided numerous cruisers and a spike belt.
Police were also able to see and identify the driver before they got away and the vehicle was located abandoned a short time later.
The driver and a passenger had fled on foot, but the passenger was quickly located and arrested without incident.
Thomas Hale, 35, of Tay Valley Township, has been charged with obstructing a peace officer.
Hale was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Perth on August 26, 2024.
An arrest warrant has been issued for William Scharf, 50, of Drummond-North Elmsley, and Lanark OPP are urging him to turn himself in.
He faces the following charges:
- Flight from a peace officer
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle
The OPP believes this was a targeted incident and there was no risk to public safety.

If you do see Scharf, police say do not approach.
