Man charged with arson after fire at Overbrook apartment

The Ottawa Police Services’ (OPS) Arson Unit charged a man in relation to a fire that happened at an Overbrook apartment building.

At 6:05 a.m. in the 1200 block of Donald Street on May 2, a fire sent three to hospital in critical condition.

Saeed Mohamed, 42, of Ottawa is charged with:

  • Arson disregard for human life
  • Attempted murder x3
  • Arson causing bodily harm x3
  • Possession of incendiary material
  • Arson causing property damage

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.

Firefighters rescued one adult and two children from a third-floor apartment. Six others were treated on scene and five others were transported to hospital with minor injuries including smoke inhalation. The fire was declared under control just before 7 a.m.
