No injuries after kitchen fire in Centretown apartment building

Firefighters quickly knocked down a late-night kitchen fire in Centretown.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to multi-unit apartment building in the 300 block of Frank Street around shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a kitchen fire on the fourth floor of the building and crews arrived to find thick, black smoke coming from the back of the building.

The occupants of the building were evacuating to the street when firefighters arrived.

Crews quickly made their way to the fourth floor and located the fire unit, where they were met with heavy smoke condition inside.

The fire, which was located on the stove top, was knocked down within 10 minutes of firefighters arriving on scene.

It was confirmed there were no resident in the unit and high pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the building.  

The air quality was deemed safe, and all residents were allowed to return to their unit except the occupants of the fire unit.

Four people have been left without a place to stay and victim’s services has responded to help.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
