O-Train Line 1 closed for testing this Saturday

There will be a full O-Train Line 1 closure on Saturday, Dec. 14, as a part of planned testing for the Stage 2 O-Train east extension.

The temporary closure of Line 1 is scheduled for system integration testing of train control software, wrote Renée Amilcar, General Manager of Transit Services with OC Transpo.

This is intended to ensure riders experience uninterrupted travel on the extended line from Blair Station to Trim Station, as a part of the extension, she added.

A milestone for Ottawa’s transit system, the O-train extension of Line 1 from Blair to Trim introduces rail access to east-end neighbourhoods. OC Transpo is extending rail by 12.5 kilometres and adding five new stations, where residents of Orléans, Blackburn Hamlet, and Beacon Hill will be within 5 kilometres of light rail.

In a memo to Ottawa’s mayor and members of council, OC Transpo outlined the impacts of this closure:

  • O-Train Line 1 will not operate for the full day
  • R1 bus service will operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations for the duration of the closure (6 a.m. to 2 a.m.)
  • Shuttle bus service will run between St-Laurent and Cyrville stations and between Lees Station and Mackenzie King Bridge, during the closure

According to OC Transpo’s General Manager, Line 1 service will resume on Dec. 15 at its regular start time.
