A person is dead and a police officer has been hospitalized with stab wounds following a emergency call in Gatineau.
Just before 12 a.m. on Oct. 23, the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) responded to Saint-Rédempteur Street following a 9-1-1 call.
While on scene, a police officer was stabbed, suffering serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The SPVG said officers on scene had to quickly intervene to rescue the injured officer and a person was shot and killed during the interaction.
The Office of Independent Investigations (BEI) has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding what happened, therefore, the SPVG will not be releasing any further information, including the nature of initial call.
A police perimeter has been set up and Rue Saint-Rédempteur is closed to all traffic between Boulevard Sacré-Coeur and Rue Mangin.
The SPVG said a crisis unit has been set up to manage police operations and provide the necessary psychological support to police officers and civilian employees.
The injured police officer remains in hospital.
