One injured, one charged in late-night Perth pub incident

Officers from the Lanark County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident at a pub in Perth, Ont.

At around 12:45 a.m. police were at the pub on Foster Street where a “large group” gathered outside. One male was lying on the ground, police said.

“It definitely appears to have been some kind of fight, but that is part of the ongoing investigation,” Bill Dickson, media relations officer with OPP East Region, told CityNews.

The 33-year-old’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was transported to hospital by County Paramedic Service.

As a result of the altercation, Douglas Best, a 58-year-old from Tay Valley Township, was charged with assault.

The accused was released from custody and is set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Aug. 12.

Police said that another person was also arrested at the scene for interfering with the investigation but was released without charges.
