Ontario driver’s ‘road rage’ with BB gun leads to arrest, weapons charges, says OPP

Provincial police say a 56-year-old man is facing multiple weapons charges after a road rage incident in Loyalist Township, Ont. on Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says that just before 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to a firearms call on County Road 4 by Highway 401. Police say the caller reported that a man pointed a gun at them and fired a shot at their vehicle during a road rage incident.

No injuries were reported.

Police stopped the suspect vehicle a short time later, arrested the driver and seized a bb gun.

OPP has charged Daniel Vanderwerf, 56, of Stone Mills, Ont. with:

  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Imitation firearm – use while committing offence
  • Discharge air gun or pistol with intent
  • Dangerous driving

Vanderwerf was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on June 18.
