The Lanark County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding the public it is a crime to carry a replica weapon.
On Tuesday, a 24-year-old in Perth, Ont. was reminded of that when police caught him carrying around an “imitation” handgun.
The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Gore Street.
According to officials, police responded quickly and found the man and gun and determined it was not dangerous. Police did also seize a knife from the suspect.
“Replica weapons are considered a weapon if the person uses or intends to use them to commit an offence,” a post from OPP on X reads. “Police also face a split-second decision when faced with an individual armed with what looks like a real firearm.”
The man from Lanark Highlands Township was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
