The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) unveiled its regular-season schedule starting Nov. 30 with each of the six teams playing 30 games before playoffs.
This is an increase in the number of games each team plays from 24 to 30.
The Ottawa Charge will hit the ice on Nov. 30 against Montréal Victoire at Place Bell.
Players and fans are excited to get the season underway, including newly signed free agent Rebecca Leslie.
“Being from Ottawa and getting a chance to play in my hometown in front of friends and family is a dream come true. I can’t wait for our team to bring the energy back to TD Place. I felt it first-hand last season with Toronto,” she said in a press release. “The fans have been incredible here since I joined the league. As a new member of the team, I’ve been welcomed with open arms here and it’s going to be sweet to play our first home game against Toronto.”
The Charge are set to play 13 of the 30 games at TD Place, wrapping up the year with a game Dec. 31 against the Scepters in Toronto.
“Fans have been asking about the schedule and we’re excited that it’s finally here,” Mike Hirshfeld, General Manager, said. “We had the best fans in the league last year and it will be a blast to play in front of a packed house again this season.”
Just before the season begins, Ottawa will take part in two mini-games against Montréal and Boston on Nov. 21 and 22.
The league’s inaugural season opened Jan. 1 and finished on May 29 with the Minnesota Frost winning the first Walter Cup.
The PWHL is pausing three times throughout the year with the regular season ending on May 3.
Training camps are set to start Nov. 12.
