Ottawa firefighters knock down early morning blaze in Lowertown

There are no injuries reported following an early morning fire in Lowertown.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a multi-unit residential low-rise on Nelson Street, between Clarence and York streets, shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

A 9-1-1caller had reported visible flames coming from the second floor of the residence and when crews arrived, flames could be seen at the back of the building.

A working fire was declared at 3:40 a.m. in order to dispatch additional resources to the scene and firefighters began a fast attack.

Firefighters completed two full searches of the structure and found no occupants inside.

The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m. and there is no word on the extent of the damage.

A fire investigator is now investigating what caused the blaze.
