Ottawa OPP lay several impaired driving charges in 48-hour period

It was a busy couple of days for provincial police on Ottawa highways.

Ottawa OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 417 around 2 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16 after a vehicle was seen driving erratically near Maitland Avenue.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

After the driver failed a roadside breath test, they were arrested for impaired driving.

Shortly before 11 p.m., police stopped a driver for speeding on the 417 near Moodie Drive.

The investigating officer determined that the driver, who had a G2 licence, was impaired by alcohol.

Then, in a separate incident, OPP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 416, near Hunt Club Road.

It was determined one of the drivers involved had been consuming alcohol, and say the driver refused to provide a breath sample.

Both drivers were charged accordingly, were each issued a 90-day driving suspension, and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.

All three people arrested are due in court in October.
