The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) conducted a tow truck enforcement blitz across the city over the past few days.
According to OPS, officers were verifying compliance with the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act (TSSEA) by requesting several items, including proof of certification, licensing, consent forms, run sheets and daily logs.
Forty tow trucks were stopped, resulting in 43 charges related to TSSEA, HTA and equipment violations, wrote the OPS on X.
Four of the 40 vehicles stopped were placed out of service, and one was impounded due to lack of certification by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).
“Tow trucks with mechanical failures can be put back into service once those have been corrected with proof,” Amy Gagnon, Acting Sergeant with Traffic Services, told CityNews.
“The tow truck that did not have a TSSEA certificate was impounded for 7 days (per the TSSEA),” she added.
Tow truck drivers can expect that Ottawa Police TSSEA enforcement will continue, Gagnon noted.
