Ottawa rules for provincial election signs on public and private property

The City of Ottawa said in a release that election signs for the 2025 provincial election can be placed on public and private property until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday Mar. 2. Permission must be granted by the homeowner or business owner prior to erecting the sign.

Election signs for any level of government are governed by two by-laws across the city. All signs must adhere to the regulations set out in these by-laws.

Election signs on public and private property must not be within three metres of an intersection, 50 cm of a sidewalk, or two metres of a roadway. They also cannot be placed on central medians, including roundabouts.

The city notes that regulations can differ for National Capital Commission (NCC) lands and provincial highways. Those restrictions can be found on the NCC and Ministry of Transportation websites.

All signs across the city must be removed by 72 hours after voting day. Voting will take place on Feb. 27.
